Kenneth Bamford Williamson was the son of pharmaceutical chemist, Bamford, and Annie Williamson, and one of four brothers who attended the High School. Three brothers (Alan, Cecil & Kenneth himself) served during and survived the war. The fourth brother, Ronald, was only 9 when war broke out, but went on to be a Flight Lieutenant with the RAF. Kenneth joined the school in 1904 at the age of 8, and left in 1909 to board at Mill Hill School, North London, which he left in 1913. He trained with the school's own Officer Training Corps, and as a cadet, was commissioned on 24-Nov-1914, as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant, and later as acting Major, with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He served in France, where he sustained minor injuries in September, 1916. He was Mentioned in Dispatches, and was also awarded the Military Cross in October 1917 when he led a group of men to save an ammunition dump that had been set alight by enemy shells. After the war he went on to become a medical practitioner, and died in Penrith in 1929 at the early age of 33 |
