PEEBLES, John Archibald

John Archibald Peebles was the son of John Peebles, a Corporation Gardener, and his wife Alice. John's father died in 1902, and in 1904 he entered the High School as a Corporation Scholar, leaving in 1908 to join the North Eastern Bank. He enlisted early in the war as a Private with the Northumberland Fusiliers, and was promoted to Sergeant, serving in Flanders. He was recommended for a Commission, but shortly after was killed in action on 6-Jul-1916. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, about 20km north-east of Amiens. |
