OHLSSON, Andrew
Andrew Ohlsson's father was Swedish-born, Andrew Ohlsson, who ran a boarding house for seamen on Ferry Landing , and his mother was Margaret Tate Ohlsson. He joined Holy Trinity Boys School in 1895, and moved to Westoe Higher Grade School in July 1900. It isn't clear how long he attended, however he went on to be an Assistant Master (possibly also at Westoe). He eventually went to Armstrong College, where he gained a BSc. He served as a Private with the 1st/7th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. Not much is known of his war service, but he went missing on 26-May-1915, and was presumed killed in action. Andrew is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, a memorial to those whose bodies were never found. |
