Henry Havelock Wood was the son of Philip Sligh Wood, an iron ore mechant and chemical manufacturer. His brothers, John Ronald and Alan, also attended the school. Henry was at the High School from 1902 to the end of 1906, when he left to go to Mill Hill School until July, 1909. His two younger brothers were also to attend this school over the next couple of years. After school, Henry began his military career by joining the Durham Light Infantry, and in 1910 was made 2nd Lieutenant. He survived the war, and died in South Shields in 1964. |
