James Laverick Watson was the son of Quarry Manager, James Watson, of Marsden, and his wife, Margaret Jane..

James joined the school at the age of 10, and left in a year later 1912 to take up a position with the National Provincial Bank.

He joined the Tyneside Scottish battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers and on 22-Nov-1916 became a temporary 2nd Lieutenant.

He was killed in action on 29-Apr-1917 after being shot in the head while saving a wounded man.
