KAYE, Richard S
There is no direct evidence that the details here refer to the same Richard S Kaye who went to Westoe Secondary School, but the relatively unusual name suggests that it is likely. Richard Steedman Kaye's father was also Richard Kaye, a butcher (later meat sales agent for Steedman & Son, Liverpool). His mother was Christina. His exact date of birth isn't known, although he was christened at the West Street Chapel on 27-Jan-1898. It isn't known when Richard joined Westoe Secondary School, nor is much known of his military career other than he was killed in action in France & Flanders on 8-Oct-1917 at the age of 19. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing in West Flanders. |
