Harry Gordon Hinde was born in South Shields to Harry and Isabella Hinde. His father was a beer merchant. Harry joined the High School in 1898 at the age of 7, leaving nearly 4 years later to attend "New College", an indpendent preparatory school in Harrogate, later moving to Durham School. After leaving school he went on to study dentistry and, in September 1914, he joined the Royal Fusiliers (Public Schools Battalion) as a Private. He served with the Birtish Expeditionary Force, and was promoted to Corporal in March, 1915. In June, 1916, he was discharged having been given a temporary commission as Lieutenant in the Dental Surgeon's Department. He survived the war, and is believed to have died in Devon towards the end of 1978. |
