William Green Edgar was the son of coal mine deputy, John William Edgar, and his wife Annie.

William joined the High School in January, 1900, and left at the end of the following year, eventually becoming an Assistant Schoolmaster.

He initially joined up with the Army Service Corps as a private, but transferred to the 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, eventually rising to (temporary) Lieutenant in September, 1918.

William survived the war and, in 1938, married Annie Barras. He died living at 38, Sunderland Road, on 25-Jan-1959.
