BRIDGE, Arthur
These details may be those of the same Arthur Bridge who went to Westoe Secondary School, but there is no direct evidence other than a match in the military records on a relatively common or incomplete name. Arthur Irwin Bridge was born in Oldham, the son of Manchester-born, Josiah Bridge. The family had moved from Oldham around 1901, when Josiah was appointed Borough Accountant. However, it is not known when Arthur attended Westoe Secondary School, nor what he did on leaving. During the war he served with the 1st/6th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers, and was killed in action in Flanders on 26-Apr-1915. He is memorialised on the the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, a memorial to those whose bodies were never found. |
