"Big Moysie" was a student at the South Shields High School for Boys
from 1938 to 1945. Whilst there, he appeared on stage as Dick Deadeye in the
school's production of HMS Pinafore.
He excelled in sports, becoming captain of the Rugby and Cricket teams, as well as
School Captain. Outside the school he played rugby for Westoe RFC and Durham, and
cricket for South Shields, and tried out as a goal-keeper for Middeslborough Football
Club.
After leaving school, he studied for his BA in Modern History (with Economics, French
and Latin as subsidary subjects) at King's College, Newcastle, which he gained
in 1948. He did a further year at King's for his Diploma in Education.
His first teaching post was Redwell County Secondary School, which he joined
in September, 1951. Three years later, in 1954 he joined the teaching staff of South
Shields Grammar-Technical School for Boys, leaving in 1960 to a position as Senior
House Master at Kenton Comprehensive School in Newcastle.
Alan Moyse (brother of Eric Moyse, who helped organise the
2002 school reunion) died in April, 1993.
