Gordon "Jugger" Brown was a South Shields High School for Boys pupil from 1938 to 1942, following which he went to Durham to get his BA (Hons) in History.

He was an assistant at Ocean Road County Secondary between 1952 and 1959, and then joined the South Shields Grammar-Technical School for Boys in September, 1959.

He left in December, 1970, to become Senior English Master at Chuter Ede Secondary Modern School.
