Harry Robert Vaughan was born in 1885, in Dagshai, West Bengal, India, where his parents (Charles and Elizabeth Mary Vaughan) lived while his father served as a Sergeant with the 2nd Highland Light Infantry.

He attended Stanhope Road school, and joined Westoe Secondary School in August, 1899

In 1911, Harry was serving with the British Army, and at some point he joined the Connaught Rangers.

He was attached to the 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, as a 2nd Lieutenant, when he was killed in action at Ypres on 27-Oct-1914.

He is remembered in the Berks Cemetery Extension, just south of Ypres, on the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing.
