William Miles Morant was born in Reigate, Surrey, to Chief Constable, William George Morant, and his wife Rosa Mary Morant.

Miles joined the High School in 1902, but within the year had moved to Durham with his family.

He joined the Durham Light Infantry, and gained his commission to 2nd Lieutenant on 16-Sep-1914 then, in November, 1915, he was promoted to temporary Captain.

He was killed in action near Ypres, and is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing, just south of Ypres.
